Work Rehabilitation Program

Injuries at work can occur suddenly, such as a slip or fall, or slowly over time with repetitive strain on an area of the body. If you are injured at work, make a claim through your employer, and the Workers Compensation Board will cover your initial assessment fee then decide if you are approved for further treatment. Be sure to make a claim through your employer within 5 days of becoming aware of your workplace injury. We offer programs that provide workplace injury rehabilitation, work site assessments, and prevention ergonomic advice.

What Is WSIB?

The Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) is Ontario’s provincial workers’ compensation program. If you are injured on the job or develop a work-related illness or condition, WSIB provides benefits that may include coverage for healthcare treatment, wage replacement, and return-to-work support.

At MHP Spine & Wellness Centre, we are a WSIB-authorized healthcare provider. This means your approved treatments may be billed directly to WSIB — at no out-of-pocket cost to you.

Our Approach to WSIB Rehabilitation

Recovering from a workplace injury isn’t just about reducing pain — it’s about restoring your function, rebuilding your strength, and safely returning to the demands of your specific job. Our team takes a goal-oriented, return-to-work focused approach to every WSIB case.

Step 1 — Initial Assessment Your first visit includes a comprehensive evaluation of your injury, your work demands, and your functional limitations. We document everything thoroughly to support your WSIB claim.

Step 2 — Personalized Treatment Plan Based on your assessment, we develop a treatment plan that addresses your injury, your recovery timeline, and your return-to-work goals. We coordinate care between our chiropractor, physiotherapist, and RMT as needed.

Step 3 — Active Rehabilitation Treatment typically includes a combination of manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, soft tissue work, and functional rehabilitation. We progressively build your strength and endurance to match the physical demands of your job.

Step 4 — Functional Progress Monitoring We track your progress at every stage and provide detailed reports and documentation for WSIB as required. Clear, consistent communication with the board helps keep your claim moving forward without unnecessary delays.

Step 5 — Return to Work Support As you near full recovery, we focus on work conditioning — making sure you have the strength, mobility, and confidence to return to your duties safely and sustainably, reducing the risk of re-injury.

Services Available for WSIB Patients

  • Physiotherapy — manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, and progressive return-to-work conditioning
  • Registered Massage Therapy (RMT) — soft tissue release, muscle tension reduction, and circulation support to accelerate healing
  • Exercise therapy and strengthening — targeted programs to rebuild the strength and endurance needed for your specific job tasks
  • Postural and ergonomic retraining — addressing the movement patterns and workplace habits that contributed to your injury in the first place

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need my employer’s approval to start treatment? No. Once you have filed your WSIB claim and received a claim number, you can seek treatment from an authorized provider like MHP Spine & Wellness Centre. You do not need your employer’s permission to access healthcare.

What if my WSIB claim hasn’t been approved yet? You can still begin treatment. Many patients start care while their claim is being processed. We can discuss payment options in the interim, including direct billing to your extended health benefits if applicable.

Can I see more than one type of practitioner for my WSIB injury? Yes. WSIB recognizes the value of multidisciplinary care. Depending on your injury and what is approved in your treatment plan, you may be eligible to see our chiropractor, physiotherapist, and RMT as part of your rehabilitation.

What if I disagree with a WSIB decision about my treatment? You have the right to appeal WSIB decisions. Your healthcare provider can provide supporting clinical documentation to strengthen your case. We are experienced in preparing the detailed clinical notes and functional progress reports that WSIB and appeals processes require.

How long will my rehabilitation take? Recovery timelines vary depending on the nature and severity of your injury, your age, your overall health, and the physical demands of your job. Your practitioner will give you a realistic estimate after your initial assessment and update it as your recovery progresses.

I was injured a while ago but never sought treatment. Can I still come in? Yes. It is never too late to seek treatment for a work-related injury. If your WSIB claim is still open, coverage may still apply. If it has lapsed, we can discuss other options including extended health benefits or private pay.
