What Is Physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy is a regulated, evidence-based health profession dedicated to restoring movement, reducing pain, and improving your overall physical function. Whether you’re recovering from an injury, managing a chronic condition, or working to prevent future problems, a registered physiotherapist creates a personalized treatment plan designed around your specific goals and lifestyle.
At MHP Spine & Wellness Centre, our physiotherapist takes a hands-on, whole-body approach — combining manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, and patient education to get you back to doing what you love.

What to Expect at Your First Visit
Your initial physiotherapy appointment typically runs 45–60 minutes. Here’s what the process looks like:
1. Comprehensive Assessment Your physiotherapist will review your health history, discuss your symptoms and goals, and perform a thorough physical examination — including range of motion, strength, posture, and movement analysis.
2. Diagnosis & Treatment Plan Based on the assessment, you’ll receive a clear explanation of your condition and a customized treatment plan outlining your goals, expected timeline, and the treatments that will be used.
3. Hands-On Treatment Your first session will typically include initial treatment — whether that’s manual therapy, soft tissue work, or guided therapeutic exercise — so you leave already making progress.
4. Home Exercise Program You’ll receive a home exercise program to support your recovery between visits. Consistency between sessions is one of the biggest factors in how quickly you get better.
Our Physiotherapy Treatments
Depending on your condition and goals, your treatment plan may include:
- Manual therapy — hands-on joint mobilization and manipulation to restore movement and reduce pain
- Therapeutic exercise — targeted strengthening and mobility programs to correct imbalances and build resilience
- Soft tissue therapy — myofascial release and trigger point techniques to address muscle tightness and dysfunction
- Acupuncture / dry needling — used to reduce pain and improve muscle function
- Postural retraining — correcting movement patterns that contribute to chronic pain
- Patient education — understanding your condition empowers you to take an active role in your recovery
Integrated, Multidisciplinary Care
At MHP Spine & Wellness Centre, physiotherapy doesn’t exist in isolation. Our multidisciplinary team — including our chiropractor and registered massage therapist — works collaboratively to coordinate your care. This means your treatment is cohesive, not fragmented, and you benefit from multiple clinical perspectives all working toward the same goal.
Many of our patients combine physiotherapy with chiropractic adjustments and massage therapy for faster, more lasting results.
Insurance & Direct Billing
Physiotherapy is covered under most extended health benefit plans in Ontario. We offer direct billing to the majority of major insurance providers, so there’s no need to pay out of pocket and wait for reimbursement.
We also accept:
- WSIB (Workplace Safety & Insurance Board)
- Motor vehicle accident (MVA) patients
- Private pay
Not sure if you’re covered? Call us at 647-600-9033 and we’ll help you confirm your benefits before your first visit.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a doctor’s referral to see a physiotherapist? No. In Ontario, physiotherapists are primary contact practitioners — you can book directly without a referral from your physician.
How many sessions will I need? This varies depending on your condition, severity, and how your body responds to treatment. Your physiotherapist will give you a realistic estimate after your initial assessment.
What should I wear to my appointment? Comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows access to the area being treated. For lower body conditions, shorts are ideal. For shoulder or neck issues, a tank top or loose t-shirt works well.
Is physiotherapy covered by OHIP? Physiotherapy in private clinics like ours is not covered by OHIP for most adults. However, it is covered under most employer-provided extended health benefit plans.
Can I combine physiotherapy with chiropractic or massage therapy? Absolutely — and we encourage it. Our team regularly collaborates to create integrated treatment plans that address your condition from multiple angles.
